In order to trade securities in Mongolia, you need to open a securities account at the Mongolian Central Securities Depository (MCSD) through an authorized brokerage firm like Standard Investment. The brokerage firm will apply for an account at the Central Depository on your behalf. You may have several accounts with different brokers. MCSD is a state owned company responsible for depositing investors’ securities, transferring of ownership rights and settlement of securities transactions.

Also, with introduction of a new T+2 settlement system at the Mongolian Stock Exchange (MSE), cash settlement of securities trading is now done by authorized clearing banks. Therefore, on top of having a securities account, investors are now required to open a settlement account at a clearing bank. Standard Investment collaborates with Trade and Development Bank of Mongolia (TDB). Settlement accounts are escrow accounts, thus when withdrawing cash both the account holder’s and its broker’s signature and stamp are required.
